Sacks-Herenstein Writing Workshop

The Sacks-Herenstein Center provides a year-long, 6-part, monthly writing workshop for ten motivated graduate students from Azrieli, GPATS, Revel and RIETS who want to develop their Jewish thought leadership and hone their writing skills.  Mentored by Dr. Erica Brown and Dr. Shira Weiss, participants prepare at least one popular or academic article for publication in an encouraging and supportive environment. In 6 virtual 90-minute sessions, this writing workshop enables students to:

  • Read, analyze, think creatively and share inspiring and thoughtful articles in Jewish studies and education
  • Select compelling essay/op-ed topics and explore areas of research in Jewish thought
  • Deepen insight, structure, voice, style and sophistication while improving on the mechanics of writing
  • Give and receive edits an iterative feedback process
  • Become more critical readers
  • Overcome writers’ block
  • Study with accomplished Jewish writers
  • Revise and prepare articles for publication
